About The Position

This Battery Scientist role is focused on accelerating development of Coreshell’s cutting-edge cell chemistry in cylindrical cell form factors. You’ll have the opportunity to work across the complete development effort, from materials chemistry to product testing, leveraging both internal and external partnerships to place this product in the market.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated excellence in battery R&D and a background in manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries are required.
  • Knowledge of chemical laboratory and manufacturing environment safety practices.
  • Ability to excel in highly dynamic, early-stage environments; navigating ambiguity, making progress despite incomplete data, and balancing priorities to meet both immediate and longer-term goals.
  • A high degree of professionalism, excellent communication, and presentation skills are essential.
  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field, with 2+ years of industry experience. Candidates with a Master's or Bachelor's degree and significant industry experience may also be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with silicon-dominant anodes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration of novel cell chemistries in cylindrical cell form factors, including design refinement, validation, and implementation in manufacturing settings.
  • Perform necessary foundational work: materials screening; electrode coatings with both drawdown and slot die coaters; cell assembly; mechanical and electrochemical characterization; process and formulation refinement.
  • Ensure rapid and efficient progress using design-of-experiment, computational modeling, iterative evolution, and accelerated aging/stress-testing protocols.
  • Collaborate within the Cell Development team and cross-functionally with R&D, product, commercial, and manufacturing teams to ensure cells meet customer performance requirements and are ready-to-manufacture.
  • Characterize cells and battery materials, using both electrochemical methods & materials analytical techniques.
  • Perform cell failure analysis using both non-destructive methods and post-test cell disassembly followed by physical, compositional, and electrochemical characterization.
  • Lead FMEA efforts to identify and solve quality problems arising from material, design, and process-related factors.
