About The Position
A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician supports the installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of battery energy storage systems. This role requires an electrical or electro-mechanical background with experience working with high-voltage systems in the renewables industry.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of experience in electrical, power generation, renewable energy, or energy storage systems
- Experience with electrical fundamentals, including DC systems, three-phase AC power, and control circuits
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals
- Experience working safely around high-voltage equipment
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, and laptops for system interfaces
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass background and drug screening
Nice To Haves
- technical or trade school training preferred
- Prior hands-on experience with BESS, solar PV, or wind generation systems
- NFPA 70E, OSHA 10/30, or similar safety certifications
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies and thermal management systems
- Experience with SCADA, monitoring platforms, or data analysis tools
- Sungrow PT1, PT2 experience
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, commissioning, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of BESS equipment, including batteries, inverters, transformers, EMS, and balance-of-system components
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control system issues using schematics, drawings, and technical documentation
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance following OEM manuals and site procedures
- Monitor system performance and respond to alarms, faults, and outages
- Safely work with high-voltage DC and AC systems while following all OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards
- Complete service reports, maintenance logs, and incident documentation accurately
- Support system upgrades, retrofits, and warranty work
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, and third-party vendors during site activities
- Travel to project sites and participate in on-call or emergency response rotations
