About The Position

This role focuses on the design of lithium-ion battery cells, including packaging, electrical busbars, and thermal management of electrical components. The engineer will be responsible for plastic part design, bent/stamped part design, and ensuring designs are suitable for automotive manufacturing processes. Collaboration with CAE and Validation teams for design validation and performing DRE activities as required are also key aspects of this position. The role will initially be remote, transitioning to an on-site position at the Irvine office when Rivian returns to the office.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with lithium ion cell chemistries and form factors
  • Injection molding design experience
  • Bent/stamped part design experience
  • Understanding of electrical systems and basic circuit analysis
  • Working knowledge of Joule heating analysis
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, especially with fluids (thermal stack up, coolant loops, gasket design, etc.)
  • Familiarity with automotive powertrain requirements
  • Familiarity with automotive testing and validation process
  • SolidWorks and/or CATIA V6 experience
  • 5+ years industry experience or 3+ years with Masters Degree
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical preferred)
  • Knowledge of Catia V5
  • FEA knowledge- know what questions to ask and what the answers should sound like.

  • FEA experience preferred
  • CATIA V6 preferred
