About The Position

Join a mission-critical team supporting NASA as a Battalion Chief of Operations Training with Chenega at Kennedy Space Center, FL. In this dynamic role, you'll lead and manage daily security operations, respond to emergencies as the initial Incident Commander, and ensure the safety of personnel and property using established protocols and the Incident Command System. You'll also deliver hands-on training, operate specialized equipment, and maintain peak physical readiness. This opportunity is part-time, on-call.

Requirements

  • Fire Officer II (DoD IFSAC, Pro Board, or Florida State)
  • Fire Instructor I (DoD IFSAC, Pro Board, or Florida State)
  • Hazardous Materials Operations (DoD IFSAC, Pro Board, or Florida State)
  • NIMS ICS: 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • Airport Firefighter (must obtain within 1 year of hire)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum age: 21
  • Valid Class E Florida driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must meet NASA physical and psychological certification standards
  • Must pass drug and alcohol screenings, including random testing
  • No felony convictions or history of illegal drug use
  • Honorably discharged from the Armed Services (if applicable)
  • Fluent in English (spoken, written, and comprehension)

Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency calls and assumes Incident Command, directing fire suppression, medical aid, rescue operations, and hazardous materials mitigation until relieved by a higher authority.
  • Conducts and documents recurring and specialized training for fire department personnel. Supervises Lieutenants, Drivers, Paramedics, and Firefighters to ensure operational readiness and performance.
  • Applies expert knowledge of fire suppression techniques, rescue procedures, and operates specialized equipment including hydraulic tools, fire apparatus, and emergency vehicles.
  • Adheres to and enforces company, personnel, and safety policies. Ensures compliance with certification procedures, departmental regulations, and emergency response standards.
  • Interfaces professionally with customers and contractors. Communicates effectively through verbal, written, and electronic methods to coordinate emergency and routine operations.
  • Participates in daily fitness programs and maintains readiness for technical rescue, HazMat operations, and Pad Rescue functions. Engages in ongoing training and certification activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including supporting diversity, upholding ethical standards, participating in continuous process improvement, and contributing to a respectful and inclusive workplace.
