This role involves supervising student-athletes as assigned by the head coach, adhering to the Gadsden Independent School District’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include promoting sports participation, treating student-athletes professionally, and maintaining loyalty to the school and Head Coach. The position emphasizes developing a competitive program that excels in athletic performance, classroom achievement, and community expectations, while fostering an environment for academic and athletic success. The coach is expected to monitor academic performance, enforce the "Code of Ethics," teach sportsmanship, and set an example of good moral and physical behavior. The role requires assuming responsibility for the conduct and well-being of all players, conducting oneself in a manner that brings credit to the individual, team, and school, and developing open communication with participants, teachers, administrators, and parents. Loyalty and trustworthiness to student-athletes, team, head coach, school, and district rules are paramount. The coach must be familiar with and follow the policies and guidelines of the Gadsden Independent School District and the New Mexico Activities Association, including knowing and adhering to district and state eligibility and transfer rules. Ensuring "RankOne" clearance from the trainer before an athlete participates is also required. Professional responsibilities include reporting inappropriate behavior, attending professional meetings and clinics, and working with administrators to upgrade the athletic program. Teamwork involves cooperating with the Head Coach and other coaches, and encouraging athletes to participate in other sports. Program development includes participating in off-season and summer programs and promoting programs involving middle and elementary school students. Methods and strategies involve adhering to the Head Coach's direction, instructing participants on safety and injury reporting, implementing technical coaching strategies, and employing sound teaching skills and techniques, with an emphasis on innovation. Management functions include securing facilities after use, supervising locker rooms, ensuring proper use of uniforms and equipment, cooperating with the head trainer on injuries, following fundraising guidelines, and complying with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
