Basin & Equity Research Lead

ComboCurveHouston, TX

About The Position

This role focuses on oil and gas equities research, differentiating itself by building analysis from the well level up, rather than relying solely on top-down company guidance. The position involves owning both basin and play research, including top-wells rankings, subplay studies, completion-design trends, and operator benchmarking, with an audience of E&P executives. It also encompasses equity research, covering public E&P names using proprietary well-level forecasts to analyze NAV, inventory, corporate cash flow, leverage, hedge positions, and valuation, targeting investors and executives. The core product is built on detailed, bottom-up analysis, allowing for clear explanations of discrepancies with company disclosures. This is a technical role with a public-facing component, requiring strong writing and design skills to capture the attention of decision-makers. Research is published in two formats: a two-page executive summary for circulation and a comprehensive full study for detailed argument and auditability. The role requires the ability to write both formats effectively, with compression of complex analysis into concise summaries being a key skill. The successful candidate will maintain a publishing cadence of 1-2 studies per month and ensure models and datasets are organized for efficient updates. The role also involves presenting research at conferences and webinars, supporting executive and investor conversations, and collaborating with marketing and the executive team on future coverage. Feedback on the platform's workflow is also expected.
