Organization: PMI Molecular Pathogenesis Job Summary: Job Summary: This computational scientist role is focused on the development and application of computational approaches in the fields of immunology, microbiology, and vaccine science. This will include working with a multidisciplinary team of computational and experimental researchers to develop novel machine learning and artificial intelligence-based methods. More specifically, duties will include development and implementation of new computational methods, leading computation-oriented projects, management of laboratory equipment, training new students and staff, and collaborating with other members in our group and with other groups. Familiarity with coding in at least one programming language (preferably Python or R) is required. Experience with machine learning libraries (including PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit–learn, etc) is essential. Experience with bioinformatic toolkits for single-cell data analysis (such as CellRanger, Scanpy, Seurat, or similar) is needed. . Department Summary: The Vanderbilt Center for Antibody Therapeutics (VCAT) is recognized as one of the leading centers in the world with broad expertise in basic and clinical discovery related to understanding and optimizing disease prevention through antibody discovery. At the interface of immunology and virology , recent computational advances have allowed us to better understand the interactions between antibodies and antigen, to design immunogens capable of eliciting target antibody specificities, and to optimize antibodies as clinical products. Research efforts aim to utilize the power of computation to increase our understanding of fundamental questions in immunology and virology and to develop novel ways of using this understanding to fight diseases. For the translational component of our research, we apply structure-based protein design approaches to the development of new vaccine and antibody product candidates against a number of viruses of biomedical interest. Requirements

  • Familiarity with coding in at least one programming language (preferably Python or R) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory experiments and produce competent and reproducible results to a high technical standard
  • Devise research methods, prepare technical specifications, and specify laboratory test equipment and processes
  • Analyze data, and interpret and present results with minimal faculty supervision
  • Design experiments and implement and standardize new processes and procedures based on expert knowledge of literature and subject matter
  • Maintain detailed documentation and write formal scientific reports suitable for publication
  • Perform mathematical calculations and generate relevant statistics to support scientific output
  • Prepare materials suitable for institutional review of formal protocols and operating procedures with minimal faculty supervision
