About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured open-rank faculty to serve as Basic Sciences faculty for the hybrid synchronous and asynchronous format of the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program. This 7-semester PAS program is a blend of online and on-campus activities that provide a similar curriculum to the residential program. This hybrid position allows the faculty member to live remotely from campus; however, PAS faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Charleston for designated periods for teaching and required program events. Candidates for the Assistant, Associate, or Full, must have a proven track record of teaching, advising, research/scholarship and service, consistent with MUSC-ranked faculty. The MUSC University is unable to employ remote workers in certain states due to the states’ respective regulatory requirements and stipulations that are not operationally feasible for our organization. These states include Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Candidates residing in Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, or West Virginia may be considered on a case-by-case basis with institutional approval. Remote positions are not available in U.S. territories or international locations.

Requirements

  • Terminal or professional degree in a relevant field (PhD, PA, PharmD, MD, or DO)
  • NCCPA certification (if PA) or appropriate board certification/licensure (if applicable)
  • Eligible for South Carolina licensure (if applicable)
  • Minimum 2–3 years teaching experience in anatomy & physiology or pharmacology in a PA, medical, or health professions program
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in assigned discipline

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, PharmD, DMSc, or equivalent)
  • Experience teaching in PA education programs
  • Experience in hybrid or online education delivery
  • Familiarity with ARC-PA standards and accreditation processes

Responsibilities

  • Serve as course director and primary instructor within assigned discipline
  • Develop, deliver, and update lectures, learning materials, and assessments
  • Ensure horizontal and vertical integration across the curriculum (B2 alignment)
  • Maintain consistency across hybrid delivery modalities (asynchronous, synchronous, immersion)
  • Design and implement valid, reliable, and standardized student assessments
  • Monitor student performance; provide feedback, advising, and remediation
  • Collaborate with faculty to support curricular integration across courses and phases
  • Participate in CQI processes, including outcomes analysis and course improvement
  • Ensure course design (syllabi, outcomes, objectives, assessments, grading) aligns with program competencies and accreditation expectations
  • Ensure comparable and equivalent instruction, learning experiences, and assessment outcomes across all hybrid and distributed environments
  • Conduct frequent, objective evaluation of student performance and participate in timely remediation processes
  • Participate in program self-assessment, outcomes analysis, and continuous quality improvement activities
  • Contribute to student advising, admissions, and support activities
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi in compliance with ARC-PA Standard D1.04
  • Ensure content meets ARC-PA B2 didactic curriculum requirements
  • Contribute to accreditation documentation (self-study, annual reports, site visit prep)
  • Participate in internal audits and continuous compliance monitoring
  • Maintain accurate course records, assessment data, and student performance documentation
  • Support program leadership in maintaining ongoing accreditation readiness
  • Serve as primary instructor for a four-course pharmacology sequence totaling 11 credit hours delivered across the ~15-month didactic phase using hybrid modalities.
  • Serve as primary instructor for anatomy and physiology content across the didactic curriculum, including foundational and systems-based instruction with clinical integration.
