About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Basic Needs Coordinator position located at our campus in Menifee, CA. Under supervision and direction of the Director of CALWORKs, the Basic Needs Coordinator, will focus on addressing the basic needs of students and provide a holistic, comprehensive basic needs services and resources to students to support their successful matriculation through the community college system and beyond. Establish and maintain the Basic Needs Center(s) to offer services and resources to students in need. Audit resources that are available on-campus and in the community and maintain an easy to access college webpage.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (attach transcript)
  • Two (2) years of professional, coordinator experience in a related field that will demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities necessary to meet the performance objectives of the essential duties and responsibilities of this job description
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in education, organizational leadership/behavior, or related field
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with community college students.
  • Knowledge of current issues faced by students who have unmet needs

Responsibilities

  • Contact local businesses, institutions, and city and county agencies to determine basic needs services and resources for students
  • Coordinating with the campus financial aid office to ensure students are receiving the maximum aid available
  • Identifying, supporting and linking students to on – and – off campus housing, food, mental health and other basic needs and resources
  • Developing on – and – off campus partnerships, including coordination with the local homelessness response system, to ensure that students have access to community-based services
  • Ensuring that students receive support in accessing CalFresh and other public benefits for which they are likely eligible
  • Create brochures, flyers, newsletters, and advertisements for the Basic Needs Center services and resources
  • Facilitate transition services such as work-based learning opportunities, provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills, and promote the use of technology for career planning and research
  • Collaborate with the Career/Transfer Center in offering presentations, workshops, and interview panels on various workability skills such as launching job search, application preparation, resume writing, interview techniques, job retention, job market trends, and internships
  • Articulate the needs of students to appropriate college personnel
  • Assist in preparing required narrative and expenditure reports within specific timelines
  • Maintain a friendly, supportive, atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the public
