Base Cabin Leader (Summer 2027)
About The Position
YMCA Camp Greenville is seeking a cause-driven leader to serve as a Base Cabin Leader for traditional summer camp sessions in Summer 2027. Located on 1,400 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Camp Greenville is an overnight camp that hosts campers from throughout the region and around the world. The role provides direct guidance and supervision to a cabin group of campers ages 7–17. Cabin Leaders live in the cabin with campers, guide them through a week of camp, and foster connection, confidence, and character. They build meaningful relationships, model positive decision-making, and encourage campers to challenge themselves while helping create a welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined community.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old or have graduated high school by June 2027.
- Be CPR/First Aid certified or able to obtain certification before June 2027.
- Have experience working with youth ages 5–17.
Nice To Haves
- Experience at an overnight summer camp.
- Lifeguard certification, or the ability to obtain it before June 2027.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct guidance, supervision, and group management to a cabin group of campers ages 7–17 during traditional summer camp sessions.
- Live in the cabin with campers, provide 24/7 supervision, and manage day-to-day cabin living.
- Work with participants from all backgrounds.
- Teach activities, assist with evening and weekend programming, and lead campers in free-time activities.
- Serve as a role model and uphold camp values while working with integrity, creativity, and safety in mind.
- Support campers’ mental, emotional, and physical health and well-being during their time at camp.
- Approach responsibilities in a fun, creative, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
- Adhere to policies regarding boundaries with consumers and procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Attend or complete required abuse risk management training and follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
