The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Technician II, is responsible for installing, monitoring, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and replacing pneumatic, electric, electronic and direct digital controls systems. For all on and off campus HVAC Building controls, chillers, chiller plant controls, lighting controls, and building control systems. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. As Essential Personnel you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, orientations, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. 2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Energy Management Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Manager. 3. Familiar with the standard concepts, practices and procedures of the BAS/ EM trade. 4. Knowledge and experience at reading diagrams, schematics, engineering specifications, and blueprints. 5. Knowledge and experience with the installation, programming, start-up, commissioning, integration, modifying, troubleshooting, and repair of one or more direct digital control systems. 6. Knowledge and experience configuring and integrating various manufacturer graphical user interfaces, network level controllers, and field level controllers. 7. Experience verifying readings and measurements on building automation systems. 8. Experience working on pneumatic controls in the HVAC field. 9. Knowledge and experience working with commercial HVAC systems and DDC Building Automation systems. 10. Knowledge and experience working from drawings, schematics, blueprints and job layouts. 11. Ability and experience on how to use all trade related hand and power tools. 12. Must be able to keep detailed records of the labor and materials used to complete tasks. 13. Must be able to provide detailed records of installed systems, suitable for use as the basis of digital “as-built” record drawings. 14. Ability to perform basic configuration and commissioning of controllers, which may require the use of computer-based service tools and software. 15. Performs preventative maintenance and retro commissioning on existing systems. 16. Working knowledge of electrical principles. 17. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Local, and University rules, regulations, electrical, building, and construction codes. 18. Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks. 19. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. 20. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks. 21. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission. Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 3+ years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to understand and follow instructions, and work under limited supervision. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Proven, excellent leadership skill, initiative, and competency is required. Exceptional self-management. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Proficient knowledge and excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access). Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. Self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational and planning skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift, up to 50+ pounds and perform duties of the BAS Controls trade in typical Virginia Climate. This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer, will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
