About The Position

Part-time 40 hours per pay period at the Courtyard Cafe. John Knox Village features 7 individual dining outlets spread out over 400 acres of residential property, each with a unique menu and style of service. These include Fireside (cafeteria), Lakeside Grille (quick service), Courtyard Café, Places Restaurant, Stories Public House, Metropolitan (full service), and the Coffee Shoppe. Most outlets are scratch kitchens, with Courtyard Café, Places, Stories Pub, and Metropolitan being 70-99% scratch made-to-order. Lakeside has a mix of cook-to-order and batch cooking, while Fireside is mostly batch cooking. All kitchens operate under the leadership of a chef. Check averages range from $6.50 to $20.00. All outlets offer flexible hours and both full- and part-time positions. Full-time positions are benefit-eligible with up to 5 weeks of PTO. Outlet hours vary, with the earliest service at 7 am and latest closing at 8 pm. Servers in full-service restaurants earn a higher wage and gratuities. JOB SUMMARY: This position provides service duties in a restaurant, dining room, and kitchen environment. Duties may include preparing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, functioning as a host/hostess, setting up the dining area, taking food orders, serving food, and cleaning/sanitizing dining areas. The role is responsible for following instructions, carrying out assignments properly, supporting the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations, and completing required training.

Requirements

Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
High school diploma or GED.
Must obtain current Food Handler Permit within 15 days of start date.
Ability to work with a large group of residents/customers.
Beginner level knowledge of cash handling and cash register operation.
Excellent knowledge of mixing, garnishing, and serving drinks.
Computer literacy.
Awareness of cost control responsibilities of the position within the Department.
Ability to work irregular hours.
Ability to speak in simple sentences.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
Ability to perform tasting and/or smelling.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straight-forward written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

Serves guests in bar and dining areas.
Prepares alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for guests at the bar and servers ordering for guests.
Assures customer meets required age of 21 to consume alcohol; is conscientious of customers’ level of alcohol consumptions and determines if appropriate to discontinue serving.
Sets up and cleans assigned dining areas.
Relays orders to kitchen and serves food.
Performs food preparation.
May perform cashier responsibilities.
Complies with dining services tip reporting policy.
Observes residents and responds to additional needs.
Restocks and replenishes bar inventory and supplies.
Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
