About The Position

The primary role of a Bartender is to provide members, guests, and golfers of Sycamore Golf Club with prompt, friendly, and responsible beverage service while maintaining the Club’s standard of quality and hospitality. A Bartender is responsible for the operation, cleanliness, and stocking of the bar during their shift, the accurate handling of all sales, and the responsible service of alcohol in accordance with New York State law and Club policy. A Bartender may be assigned to the clubhouse bar, patio, private events, or beverage cart.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to serve alcohol under New York State law.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, courteously, and honestly.
  • Ability to work quickly and stay organized during busy periods, and to establish priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the golf season and event schedule.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with coworkers, members, and guests.
  • Ability to operate POS system, credit card terminal, draft beer system, blender, glass washer, and other bar equipment.
  • Ability to operate a golf cart or beverage cart when assigned.
  • Ability to calculate figures, make change, and apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, drink recipes, operating instructions, and Club policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior bartending or food and beverage service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet members, guests, and golfers promptly and provide courteous, attentive service throughout their visit.
  • Prepare and serve beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages according to Club recipes and standard pour sizes.
  • Check valid identification before serving alcohol, and refuse service to anyone under 21 or visibly intoxicated.
  • Monitor guest alcohol consumption and report any concerns or incidents to management immediately.
  • Take food and beverage orders, enter all sales into the POS system, and deliver food orders to bar and patio guests.
  • Accurately handle cash, credit card, and member charge transactions, and balance the register at the end of each shift.
  • Set up the bar before opening, including stocking liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, ice, and glassware.
  • Complete the opening or closing checklist depending on the shift worked.
  • Keep the bar top, back bar, coolers, taps, and surrounding areas clean, organized, and sanitary, and wash and sanitize all glassware.
  • Assist with inventory counts, receiving deliveries, and changing kegs as needed.
  • Set up, staff, and break down bars for tournaments, outings, weddings, and other private events.
  • Operate the beverage cart on the golf course when assigned.
  • Ensure Club policies are being followed and report any employee, member, or guest issues to management.
