About The Position

George Howell Coffee is seeking curious and attentive bartenders with a strong passion for hospitality and providing excellent guest experiences to join their wine bar team. While a thorough understanding of wine is preferred, they are looking to build a team that is hungry to expand their knowledge base and are happy to train the right candidate. Experience working with coffee, espresso beverages, and non-alcoholic beverages is a plus. The menu's focus will be a rotating list of natural wines crafted by small producers, both domestically and internationally. Additionally, there will be an abbreviated list of aperitifs, digestifs, low ABV, and non-alcoholic beverages. The role will involve hosting many events in collaboration with Lovestruck Books, including author events, book releases, and other special events. Evening and weekend availability is highly preferred, with shifts scheduled from 3pm to 10pm nightly. The ideal candidate is a person who leads with kindness, is always looking to learn more, and genuinely appreciates the value of teamwork.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience as a server or one year as a bartender with expertise in beverage creation and a strong interest in wine.
  • Contagious energy that sets a positive example for other team members.
  • Ability to remain calm and collected during peak hours and periods of high stress.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and reliable.
  • Excellent multitaskers.
  • Ability to stand in a stationary position for long stretches of time and be on your feet for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to move around the café throughout the day assisting staff and customers, as well as performing shift responsibilities constantly.
  • Ability to move and lift supplies, equipment, boxes, and other items up to 50 pounds from the floor to shelves, under the counter, and up a set of stairs.
  • Ability to shift position in multiple directions to work all stations in the kitchen and behind the counter in the front of the house.
  • Ability to reach items under counter and overhead on shelves frequently.
  • Tolerate exposure to cleaning solutions frequently.
  • Experience using wine bottle openers, coffee brewer, espresso machine, cash register – POS, and Toast is strongly recommended.
  • Weekends required.
  • Shifts will be late afternoon to evening – 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

  • TIPS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining superior beverage and product knowledge to better assist guests and guide them through the menus, including accurate menu descriptions and allergy information.
  • Creating beverages according to recipes and the company’s quality standards.
  • Creating a hospitable atmosphere by anticipating guests’ needs, engaging guests with warmth and sincerity, and maintaining the highest cleanliness standards of service areas to ensure the comfort and safety of guests.
  • Attention to detail during all steps of service (i.e.: order taking, food/drink running, POS usage, cash and credit card handling, etc.).
  • Maintain open and respectful lines of communication between fellow team members and management.
  • Complete daily side work tasks as required (stocking, daily cleaning tasks, sweeping, mopping etc.).
