About The Position

The purpose of this position is to mix and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. The Bartender prepares a variety of alcoholic drinks by selecting proper premix and garnish where a working knowledge of the various mixed drinks is required. Serves patrons directly or delivers to wait staff. Receives payment, operates cash register, and makes and returns change to patrons or wait staff. May be required to prepare documentation for cash funds accountability. The Bartender sets up bar for operation, ensures bar is in a presentable and sanitary condition, and assures an adequate stock level is maintained. They set up the storeroom and work area to permit easy access to stock items and maintain a neat and clean work area. Washing bar equipment, glassware, and utensils following proper sanitation procedures, stocking service bars, and assisting higher level bartenders as required are also key duties. The role requires completing required training in the serving of alcohol beverages before starting work, with annual, local refresher training required and documented. Identifying persons who become unruly or who appear intoxicated, resolving the problem, or seeking assistance in accordance with established procedures is also part of the role. Adherence to safety regulations and standards, using required safety equipment, and observing safe work procedures are mandatory. Promptly reporting any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor is essential. A working knowledge of sanitation procedures is required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience mixing alcoholic beverages for retail sale (completion of a bartender’s training school may be substituted).
  • Experience recognizing intoxicated or unruly patrons and resolving the problem or seeking assistance.
  • Experience following proper cash handling procedures.
  • Must be able to stoop, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing 5 to 10 pounds, pull and push objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to and over 40 pounds.
  • Must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement for working with and/or serving alcoholic beverages.
