About The Position

We are seeking a reliable, experienced Barn Manager to oversee daily operations at a private, family-owned dressage facility in Delano, MN. This is a year-round, full-time position with housing provided nearby. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who prioritizes horse welfare, communicates effectively, and works collaboratively with staff while maintaining high standards across the property.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in horse care, preferably within a dressage environment
  • Knowledge of basic equine first aid
  • Ability to perform physical barn work (mucking, lifting, turnout, etc.)
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Reliable, organized, and able to problem-solve independently

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all horses receive exceptional daily care with attention to their physical and mental well-being
  • Prepare and administer feed, grain, supplements, and water
  • Manage blanketing routines
  • Assist with veterinary, farrier, and bodywork appointments
  • Apply basic equine first aid when necessary
  • Oversee cleanliness and organization of the barn and surrounding areas
  • Direct maintenance of horse-related areas, including: Stalls and paddocks, Pastures and turnout lanes, Indoor and outdoor arenas, Hacking trails and hay storage
  • Drag arenas and assist with general upkeep as needed
  • Coordinate with and direct the Property Manager on horse-related maintenance
  • Hire, train, and schedule barn staff
  • Provide daily leadership and work alongside team members
  • Assign and monitor completion of seasonal and daily chores
  • Monitor facility conditions and proactively communicate issues
  • Meet with vendors, provide direction, and ensure work meets high standards
  • Adjust barn routines as needed during maintenance or vendor projects
  • Run occasional errands (e.g., picking up hay, supplies, fueling vehicles)
