About The Position

The Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College (SMBHC) at the University of Mississippi seeks applicants for an Instructional Assistant Professor/Barksdale Fellow. This 9-month teaching contract, renewable for up to three years, carries a 4/4 teaching load, service responsibilities, and starts 21 August 2026. This is a renewable position with benefits. Applicants must have completed at least a master’s degree by the hiring date. Experience as a recipient of a major national scholarship such as a Rhodes, Marshall, Gates, or Mitchell is preferred but not required. Job Description: Job Responsibilities Primary responsibilities of the incumbent include instruction in the Honors Freshman Seminars, mentoring and advising of students, consulting with the Office of National Scholarship Advisement, and perhaps teaching of introductory and specialized courses in a University academic department. The incumbent will utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an energetic commitment to undergraduate education and student development.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching honors freshman seminars, HONR 1010 and HONR 1020

  • Participating in the ongoing evaluation and revision of curricula
  • Mentoring and advising of honors students about national scholarships, if applicable
  • Service to the department, as assigned
