About The Position

Job Summary To serve in a variety of clinical, educational, and administrative capacities, as listed below, in support of the Department' s educational mission and programs. The activities of the junior faculty will encompass six domains: scheduling, didactic teaching, clinical teaching and supervision, patient care, administrative oversight, and patient safety/quality improvement. Essential Functions Scheduling — The junior faculty will: I. Prepare the annual schedule for each resident in the Department, as well as for residents from other residency programs who are assigned to rotations in the Department II. Create and distribute the monthly schedule and aligned specialties III. Monitor and adjust these schedules to account for and respond to scheduled and unplanned absences Didactic teaching — The junior faculty will each: I. Prepare and present didactic lectures for residents and medical students. (3-10 presentations per week) II. Prepare and present the written patient protocol at the Departmental Grand Rounds when requested by the chair III. Serve as individual coaches/remediators for department residents who have been identified to have specific learning needs Clinical teaching and supervision — Each of the junior faculty will: I. Function as an attending physician for academic inpatient teams for two months in an academic year, where they will precept residents providing care to inpatients II. Function as an attending physician in the Resident Ambulatory Clinic for 3-4 half day sessions per week, where they will precept residents providing care to outpatients Patient Care — Each of the junior faculty will: I. Provide care to inpatients on the services of the Department as directed by the Chairman. This will take place during the two months of assignment to staff medicine outlined in 2. c.i. During these two months, they will be the attending physician of record for all patients admitted to the team to which they have been assigned II. Provide care to patients in the Resident Ambulatory Clinics of the Department of Internal Medicine as directed by the Chairman, Department of Internal Medicine. This assignment will typically be for two half-day shifts for each junior faculty member per week in the Outpatient Clinics, during which time each junior faculty member will be the attending of record for every patient who is presented to him/her by a resident (typically 8-10 patients per half-day shift) Administrative Duties - Each junior faculty member will: I. Serve as an Administrative Officer in the Outpatient Clinics for the each academic year. The Administrative Officer assists the Medical Director of the Internal Medicine Clinics in meeting the administrative needs of the clinics, including scheduling, liaison with other departments, investigation of patient complaints, and supervision of allied health personnel II. Under the guidance of the Program Director, monitor resident wellness and proactively intervene in situations where a resident's well-being is threatened or impaired III. Serve as active members of several departmental and hospital committees and the request of the department chair (up to 5 committees): Departmental Education Committee, Departmental Clinical Competence Committee Patient Safety/Quality Improvement - Each junior faculty member will: I. Investigate complaints lodged about residents by patients or hospital personnel, under the direction of the Residency Program Director II. Oversee completion by each resident of the mandatory quality improvement curriculum III. Supervise the monthly resident morbidity and mortality conference Number of Hours: Each junior faculty member is expected to spend approximately 55 hours per week in the performance of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Doctorate
  • Graduate of approved Medical College
  • LIC-Physician (MD) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or LIC-Osteopathic Physician (DO) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-DEA Registration - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
