About The Position

The Patisserie Barista is responsible for delivering exceptional guest service while preparing and presenting high-quality beverages, pastries, and food items. This role ensures a welcoming café environment, maintains product knowledge, and upholds Polo Club standards while working efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of coffee preparation; experience with espresso machines is a plus
  • Basic food preparation skills with the ability to assemble café-style items
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality presentation
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, and members
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in front-of-the house operations.
  • Ability to communicate well in English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Outlook and point-of-sale (POS) electronic ordering system.
  • Serve Safe Food Handler certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked café environment
  • Prepares and serves coffee, espresso beverages, and other menu items according to established standards
  • Prepares and assembles café-style food items, including sandwiches, salads, and paninis, ensuring quality, consistency, and presentation standards are met
  • Provides prompt, friendly, and attentive service to members and guests
  • Performs all POS duties, including accurate order entry and payment processing
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures as assigned
  • Demonstrates product knowledge and confidently answers guest questions regarding menu items
  • Ensures proper presentation and quality of all food and beverage items served
  • Communicates effectively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Follows all Club policies, procedures, and cleanliness standards
  • Promotes and practices safe work habits, reporting any safety concerns to management
  • Handles member questions and concerns in a professional and courteous manner, escalating when necessary
  • Maintains a positive attitude toward fellow employees, management, and members while promoting teamwork
  • Ensures proper uniform, grooming, and punctuality for all scheduled shifts
  • Communicates with members, co-workers, and management in a courteous and professional manner
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions
  • Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Patisserie Supervisor or Director of Food and Beverage
