About The Position

Kodiak Morale Recreation and Welfare (MWR) is looking for a Barista to join their team. MWR supports and enhances the quality of life for Coast Guard personnel and their families. This position is located at U.S Coast Guard Base Kodiak and involves preparing and serving a variety of coffee and espresso drinks, snacks, and food items to meet customer requests.

Requirements

Experience with common sanitation standard in preparation, handling and serving of food and beverages.
Ability to read and understand written material and follow instructions and perform simple arithmetic.
Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate and/or complete Food Handler’s Training.
Must be able to lift object weighing up to 20 pounds.
Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull and bend for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

Previous work in a food service or related industry.
One-year or more experience in food service or related industry.

Responsibilities

Prepare and serve made-to-order espresso, other beverages, snacks and food items.
Set up food service counters, and side service stands with hot and cold food and beverages, including desserts and condiments.
Assist customers in the selection and purchase of specialty coffee beverages and whole bean sales.
Provide quality beverages, such as espresso drinks, Coffee of the Week, Whole Bean and food products consistent with established recipe and presentation standards.
Use suggestive selling techniques to sell associated products.
Serve food and beverages.
Make coffee in large urns according to the number of servings desired, with responsibility for timing and brewing.
Serve food, pastries and beverages in standard portions by placing uniform amounts in small dishes, cups or glasses in prescribed quantities.
Properly clean dishwasher, any associated appliances inside and out, and maintain customer service area and equipment in a clean and appealing manner.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to established checklists and schedules.
Follow store policies and procedures for operational flow.
Follow established standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating and storing all products.
Operate cash register and be responsible for own change fund.
Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards.
Operate a cash register according to standard cash control procedures.
Make correct change.
Take physical inventories.
Clean equipment and workspace.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Sweep, mop, and wax floors.
Dispose of food wastes and trash.
