As a Barista at SJHMC, you will be an integral part of the healthcare food service operations, interacting daily with patients, families, visitors, and staff. Your role will involve preparing and serving food and beverages, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. You will work closely with facility staff to ensure optimal nutritional care and support all aspects of the food service team's needs. Success in this role requires knowledge of food and beverage preparation, safety standards, and outstanding, empathetic customer service within a highly compliant and supportive team environment.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of food service experience
  • A Food Handlers Permit or Servsafe Certification within 30 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve items, engaging with customers.
  • Thoroughly maintain food safety and cleanliness.
  • Provide additional support tasks as needed by the food service team.
  • Comply with healthcare foodservice industry standards, regulations, and guidelines, including proper monitoring and maintenance of food temperatures during cooking, holding, and storage.
  • Adhere to procedures that prevent cross-contamination and ensure compliance with personal hygiene standards.
  • Maintain accurate labeling of food products and ensure proper storage of food, equipment, and machinery in accordance with regulatory and facility guidelines.
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines, utilizing appropriate kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of recipe ingredients to accurately address food allergy inquiries and special dietary requests.
  • Follow organizational standards and guidelines for a high-quality patient and customer experience.
  • Ensure proper meal portioning and an aesthetically pleasing presentation.
  • Serve customers in a coffee shop or retail food area.
  • Operate a cash register and handle payments.
  • Assemble, deliver, and retrieve patient trays.
  • Prepare cold food items (e.g., sandwiches, salads).
  • Support catering services, including food delivery and pick-up.
  • Perform dishwashing and pot washing.
  • Clean equipment and maintain work areas (e.g., sweeping, mopping, taking out trash).
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards are met.
  • Stock food and supply items in retail and service areas.
  • Assist with inventory checks and restocking as needed.
