About The Position

We are seeking a passionate Barista for our Millennium Park Coffeebar who is eager to be an "Intelli." We are pioneers in the direct trade model for buying coffee and creating coffee partnerships worldwide. We are passionate about coffee, which means we pay a bit more for coffee to buy direct and create long-term, collaborative relationships with our producers that grow exceptional coffee. The starting wage for a Barista is $17.47/hr, with an extensive training program designed to make new hires full-bar capable within 90 days. After certification, the pay rate increases to $19.22/hr, and the position is eligible for tips averaging $5.00 - $7.00/hr. Baristas in our Chicago Coffeebars are part of the IBEW Local 1220 union; employees are required to join after a probationary period. We offer comprehensive training to enhance coffee knowledge and service skills, opportunities to taste exceptional coffee, paid vacation and sick time, and 8 paid holidays. A full benefits package, including medical/dental and vision insurance, life insurance, and disability coverage, is available to those consistently working over 20 hours per week. You'll work with colleagues who share values of hospitality, mutual respect, and curiosity. We strive to accommodate schedules for education or personal commitments. Most shifts average about 7 hours, and our coffeebars close before late night, allowing for a good work-life balance. We prioritize internal promotions and nurture employee potential.

Requirements

  • Speak and read English proficiently
  • Dependable with good attendance and punctuality
  • Can effectively communicate with others
  • Able to learn and master coffee tasting profiles and dial-ins
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Able to multi-task and work in a high-volume environment

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operationally, adhere to policies, safety standards and protocols, and make suggestions for improving operations
  • Prepare and serve beverages that adhere to our freshness and quality standards
  • Maintain your coffee knowledge to educate and communicate with guests
  • Engage with all guests in a hospitable, sincere and friendly manner.
