About The Position

This role focuses on delivering durable weight-loss and comorbidity outcomes through careful patient selection, precise surgery, and a comprehensive post-discharge program. Success is measured by safer operations, reduced readmissions, and patients who adhere to the established treatment plan. The position involves building and managing a high-volume bariatric practice, performing primary and revisional procedures, and leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Board certification or eligibility in general surgery, with fellowship training in bariatric or minimally invasive surgery.
  • Independent experience in sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and revisional cases, including management of leaks, strictures, and nutritional failure.
  • A documented record of low complication and readmission rates, or a clear plan to reach benchmark within a defined case volume.
  • Comfort leading multidisciplinary selection conferences and saying no when surgery is the wrong next step.
  • Active medical license and ability to obtain hospital privileges and accreditation-program credentials without delay.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run a high-volume bariatric practice that meets or exceeds program volume, case-mix, and accreditation standards within the first year.
  • Select candidates using evidence-based criteria so operative risk, expected benefit, and patient readiness are clear before the first incision.
  • Perform primary and revisional bariatric procedures with complication, leak, and 30-day readmission rates at or below national benchmarks.
  • Cut length of stay and preventable returns by standardizing enhanced-recovery pathways with anesthesia, nursing, and nutrition.
  • Own longitudinal outcomes: track excess-weight loss, diabetes remission, and follow-up completion at 30 days, 6 months, and 1 year, and close gaps found.
  • Lead multidisciplinary case review so dietitians, behavioral health, and medicine align on one plan before and after surgery.
  • Teach residents, advanced practice providers, or OR teams so technique, documentation, and safety habits hold when you are not in the room.

Benefits

  • Accredited-program infrastructure
  • Outcomes dashboards
  • Protected time for clinic, cases, and follow-up
