About The Position

ADM is seeking a Barge Receiving Supervisor in Reserve, LA, to oversee all operations related to barge unloading, ensuring operating efficiency and maintaining commodity quality. This role involves developing a comprehensive understanding of plant rules and procedures, promoting a safe work environment, and ensuring compliance with operating permits. The supervisor will manage barge fleeting, supervise unloading of barges and rail cars, coordinate barge/rail orders, bin grain, maintain accurate records, and communicate operational issues to the shift superintendent. The position also requires active participation in safety meetings and ensuring paperwork is completed accurately and daily.

Requirements

  • Previous leadership experience in a grain, production, or similar environment.

  • Ability to meet physical requirements including standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders, working in confined spaces or at heights, and lifting to 50 lbs. unassisted.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all operations related to unloading, ensuring operating efficiency and maintaining commodity quality, including Specialty Grain & By-product Procedures.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all plant rules, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees by promoting and enforcing plant rules, procedures and practices.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings to stay informed and contribute to safety initiatives.
  • Attend or lead daily safety toolbox meetings.
  • Familiarize oneself with the employee handbook to adhere to company policies.
  • Understand and comply with all operating permits such as air and water quality, fleeting, weighing, etc.
  • Responsible for filling out facility permits including hot work, compressed air, confined space entry, grain storage structure entry, lockout/tagout, etc.
  • Maintain proper fleeting (arrangement and movement) of barges.
  • Supervise the unloading of barges and rail cars, checking weights and comparing them to origin weights if available.
  • Notify the shift superintendent of any discrepancies.
  • Coordinate the ordering of barges/rail and release of empties, communicating any concerns to the Plant Superintendent or traffic department regarding deliveries or fleet management.
  • Bin grain as directed by the shift superintendent, considering quality, toxin levels, etc.
  • Keep complete records of all commodities unloaded and update the inventory system accordingly throughout the shift.
  • Ensure re-examinations are conducted as needed and complete status reports accurately, with house soundings 530am/pm (updated els and bin boards) completed with mix and additional unloads @ 0700.
  • Maintain an updated board with storage bin information including commodities and grades.
  • Directly communicate any operational problems to the shift superintendent for timely resolution.
  • Relay all pertinent rail information to the railroad, both inbound and outbound.
  • Prioritize unloading to shipping bins whenever possible.
  • Ensure barge unload times adhere to advised bill weights (all barge unloads should be completed in an average of 45-55,000 bushels per hour; notify an outside supervisor if discrepancies occur).
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and daily.
  • Participate actively in morning safety meetings to discuss safety issues and strategies.
  • Request shift superintendent to review any daily required paperwork prior to sending off.
  • Arrive at work on time and maintain regular attendance.
  • Notify supervisors in advance of any planned absences or late arrivals.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic by being diligent and initiative-taking.
