About The Position

This role is responsible for assisting in the general day-to-day operations of the Bargain Store by maintaining a clean, productive, and safe work environment. The Bargain Store Associate Trainee will help with the flow of goods through the bargain store and salvage departments to minimize waste and maximize profits that help to create jobs and fund services to the community. This is a temporary position for up to 90 days, with the potential to become a regular position based on performance, work ethic, and cultural fit.

Requirements

  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English – enough to keep logs updated.
  • Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor and co-workers.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
  • Must be able to take initiative and make decisions with little supervision.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to engage in frequent bending, stretching, stooping, and prolonged standing, walking and twisting.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently and 75lbs. regularly and 100+ lbs. with assistance occasionally.
  • Ability to push equipment on wheels weighing 50 lbs. to 150 lbs.
  • Ability to use fingers, hands and wrists, repetitively.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience working in a warehouse environment preferred.
  • Prior forklift experience in a warehouse environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Bargain Store sales floor, exit/entry doors, aisles and ramps remain clear and free of equipment and debris.
  • Sort and implement quality controls procedures for all donated items, such as shoes, books, purses, hats/belts, plastics, metals and all household items.
  • Maintain inventory through identifying, labeling and placing material in the designated areas.
  • Serve as a fill-in for attended donation centers.
  • Observe safety procedures and personnel policies.
  • Regular attendance is required as outlined in Goodwill’s attendance policy.
  • Move goods and equipment interdepartmentally using carts, hand trucks and other material handling equipment.
  • Dispose of trash and unusable merchandise into compactor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
