About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and high-skilled Barber to join our shop. This position is tailored for a professional who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE). In Canada, the Red Seal for the Barber trade (often integrated within the Hairstylist standard depending on the province) signifies a mastery of both traditional grooming and modern technical styling. Whether you are a certified Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in the final stages of your training, you will be expected to uphold the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), delivering top-tier grooming services with a focus on precision, hygiene, and classic craft.

Requirements

  • Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert-level clipper work, straight-razor handling, and shear-over-comb techniques.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and maintain manual dexterity throughout a busy shift.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain a local clientele.
  • Portfolio: A demonstrated ability to perform a range of styles from "old-school" traditional to current trends.

Responsibilities

  • Professional Consultation: Conduct scalp and hair analyses. Provide expert advice on styles that complement facial morphology and hair growth patterns.
  • Precision Cutting & Fading: Master the use of shears, clippers, and razors to execute classic and modern cuts, including tapers, fades, and long-hair styling.
  • Shaving & Facial Hair Design: Provide traditional straight-razor shaves, including hot towel service and skin preparation. Execute precise beard and mustache trimming and shaping.
  • Chemical Services (as applicable): Perform hair coloring, blending, and chemical texturizing services in compliance with manufacturer safety guidelines and the RSOS.
  • Scalp & Facial Treatments: Administer treatments to improve hair health and skin condition, maintaining a high standard of client comfort.
  • Infection Control: Adhere to rigorous provincial health regulations regarding the sterilization of tools (barbicide, autoclaves) and shop sanitation.
  • Business & Mentorship: Manage appointment schedules and retail recommendations. If certified, provide technical guidance to junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, ensure all Major Work Activities (MWAs) are documented in your Apprentice Logbook.

Benefits

  • The Path to Completion: For those finishing their RSE, we offer the diverse clientele and mentorship in advanced techniques required to successfully challenge the Interprovincial Exam.
  • Competitive Compensation: Commission or hourly structures that recognize your technical expertise and status as a nationally recognized professional.
  • National Mobility: Achievement of a credential that is recognized in every province and territory, allowing you to work in high-end barbershops across Canada.
