About The Position

Provides barbering services to authorized military and civilian personnel at a main branch or location haircare facility. This is a part-time position (20-34.5 hours per week) with the opportunity to become a federal employee supporting the mission of providing quality goods and services at a savings and supporting quality of life programs for military personnel and their families.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology.
Possession of a valid State License in Barbering or cosmetology.
Must be licensed in the State of California (Cosmetologist or Barber Certification).
Must be medically screened and determined to be free of communicable disease prior to initial assignment.
Continual use of both arms and legs involving frequent standing, reaching, and light lifting.
Dexterity is required in applying manual techniques.

Nice To Haves

Candidates selected for hire who possess a U.S. State License in Cosmetology from a State other than the State the position is located must obtain a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology in the State the position is located within six months from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

Provides barbering hair care services including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, shaping, and styling hair.
Shaves faces and styles mustaches and beards.
Massages neck, face, and scalp.
Checks client's scalp and hair for visible disorders.
Consults with clients on their hair care needs.
Maintains combs in solution and sanitizes equipment.
Responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the designated work station and shop.
Makes necessary preparations for shampoo and towels.
Makes minor repairs on equipment.
Operates cash register, prepares hair care chits, collects and accounts for cash, and balances daily sales.
Sells hair care products to clients.
Maintains the Daily Appointment Book.
May open and close the shop.
Assists with monthly inventory.
Carries out policy of courtesy and customer service, ensuring 100% client satisfaction.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
