About The Position

This seasonal Barback position is located in Laguna Beach, CA. The role involves ensuring the quality of beers on tap, engaging with patrons, answering questions about beer and wine, enforcing alcohol regulations, maintaining a clean bar and work area, following Standard Operating Procedures, and contributing to a pleasant saloon environment. The Barback will also provide feedback for operational optimization and act as a brand ambassador for the Sawdust Festival. The pay is $16.50 per hour, plus tips.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Available to work day, night, and weekend shifts.
  • Has a valid Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certificate or is able to provide one before their first shift worked.
  • Able to use tablet-based POS system, and handle cash sales.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work with a diverse set of people.
  • Ability to lift 35-50 lbs.
  • Ability to move full kegs with the aid of a dolly.
  • Aptitude for, or desire to learn, the mechanical workings of saloon equipment to address problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Grace under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior bartending / service experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the schedule set forth by the Saloon Manager and execute the duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure that the beers on tap are acceptable to serve (right temperature, optimal quality, no off-smells, or flavors).
  • Engage with each patron directly, giving each the attention they deserve, and making them feel welcomed while working to meet their needs quickly and efficiently.
  • Politely and respectfully address customers’ questions about beer and wine, regardless of their knowledge or experience.
  • Conform to and enforce regulations set forth by the alcoholic beverage commission (double-checking IDs when necessary, curtailing overconsumption, etc).
  • Maintain a clean bar, storage, and overall work area.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing saloon operations.
  • Maintain a pleasant saloon environment.
  • Work towards continuous optimization of saloon operations by providing Saloon Manager and management with timely feedback.
  • Play the role of brand ambassador of the Sawdust Festival.
