About The Position

The Bar Specialist is an integral part of a motivated team focused on serving guests and delivering a strong Beverage Bar and Fresh Food department experience. The role prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including specialty beverages, tea, and coffee. It also supports ordering, receiving, staging, stocking, product rotation, merchandising, sales, inventory control, pricing accuracy, and compliance with company quality standards and regulatory guidelines. The Bar Specialist helps ensure guest satisfaction, product availability, store profitability, and a clean and safe environment.

Requirements

• Familiarity with ABC guidelines for the sale of alcoholic beverages.
• Knowledge of product ordering, inventory control, merchandising, and sales techniques.
• Ability to learn and retain policies and procedures, make decisions, lead and instruct employees, recognize sales trends and indicators, and work within and promote a team environment.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, team-building, and training skills.
• Excellent guest-service skills, creative cutting techniques, and suggestive-selling ability.
• Knowledge or understanding of department operations and financials.
• Knowledge or understanding of fruits and vegetables, their nutritional value, and complementary pairings.
• Knowledge or understanding of beer and wine varieties and selling attributes.
• Knowledge or understanding of beverage infusion trends and decorative food preparation.
• Knowledge or understanding of department food-safety and hazardous-materials rules and regulations.
• Knowledge or understanding of visual merchandising techniques.
• Knowledge or understanding of the use and care of professional produce tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Greet, serve, and thank guests promptly, courteously, and in a friendly manner; answer questions and respond to requests.
• Use guest-service skills and suggestive selling to support a remarkable shopping experience.
• Train and maintain compliance with ABC guidelines for alcoholic beverage sales.
• Prepare alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and serve bar patrons.
• Maintain current knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, ales, and cocktails to advise guests on selections and food pairings.
• Collaborate with the Center Store Market Manager on cross-merchandising opportunities and beverage options.
• Order and stock department beverages in a timely manner to support availability, presentation, guest satisfaction, and profitability.
• Ensure displayed and shelved merchandise prices match store computer pricing and inventory systems.
• Maintain company guidelines for cut produce used in juices and specialty department products.
• Monitor department inventory to reduce shrink, damage, and loss while meeting customer demand and supporting sales and profits.
• Oversee received product, including inspection and breakdown for stocking, to ensure product availability.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for coworkers and guests.
• Oversee department procedures and cash-handling policies in support of store goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
