About The Position

The Catering Bar Server provides professional beverage service at university-sponsored events, alumni gatherings, student functions, and external banquets hosted on campus. The role requires mixing and pouring drinks, maintaining a clean and safe bar area, and ensuring strict compliance with state liquor laws and university policies regarding alcohol distribution.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education or training to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Be able to work quickly and concisely under pressure
  • Must meet the minimum legal age requirement in your state to serve alcohol
  • Ability to stand for long shifts, and lift or move heavy items (up to 30–40 lbs of ice, kegs, or glassware cases).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous bartending or high-volume serving experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up portable bars, ice bins, glassware, garnishes, and beverage inventory prior to events; clean and pack up all equipment post-event.
  • Pour beer and wine and prepare non-alcoholic options accurately and efficiently.
  • Check valid government-issued identification for all guests to verify legal drinking age; monitor consumption levels to prevent over-intoxication in compliance with state regulations (such as TABC).
  • Greet faculty, students, staff, and VIP guests in a polite, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
  • Handle point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash drawers, or drink tickets if required by the specific campus event.
  • Keep the bar workspace clean, tidy, and sanitized throughout the shift, adhering to health and safety codes.
