About The Position

This position is responsible for the service of all banquets and banquet-related food and beverage operations for The Houstonian Hotel. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Must be of legal age limit with respect to serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Must have a TABC certificate and Food Handlers Certification.
  • Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift: Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to perform all activities in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
  • Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets.
  • Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
  • Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • High school education is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in a banquets environment is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a commitment to customer service and guest satisfaction.
  • Perform all guest contact activities such as serving food and beverage, answering guest questions, in a cordial, efficient and professional manner.
  • Ensure that the food and beverage is served while maintaining a consistent presentation and proper temperature.
  • Assist in transporting food, beverage, equipment, meeting supplies, china, glass, silverware and linen inventories on a predetermined basis.
  • Maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude in working with the management team and fellow employees (including other departments).
  • Enforce all sanitation procedures including safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Organizing equipment for a function as well as cleaning, maintaining, and looking after equipment during and after functions.
  • Make sure all storerooms are clean, organized and secured.
  • Immediate communication of special requests, guest problems or concerns to Banquet Captain, Director of Banquets and/or Executive Chef.
  • Follow all designated opening and closing procedures to ensure areas are secure and energy efficient.
  • Adhere to all department and The Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the proper handling and cleaning of all equipment, china, glass, and silver.
  • Other duties as assigned.
