About The Position

The Banquet Server is responsible for the comprehensive coordination of setting up, serving, and breaking down all banquet facilities. This role also entails the maintenance and organization of all facilities and equipment. Employees are expected to consistently demonstrate attentiveness, friendliness, helpfulness, and courtesy towards all guests, managers, and fellow employees. Key duties include performing preparatory tasks and side work to ensure prompt and efficient guest service, understanding and executing Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), serving guests according to hotel standards, and effectively addressing guest problems, complaints, and accidents, escalating to management when necessary. The server will set tables, maintain an organized and stocked banquet storeroom, clean up banquet spaces post-function, and ensure proper storage and restocking of equipment and supplies. Additional responsibilities involve preparing rooms based on BEOs, adhering to money-handling procedures, utilizing suggestive selling techniques, possessing thorough knowledge of menu items to provide accurate descriptions, and ultimately ensuring overall guest satisfaction. The role also requires performing other related and assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent education preferred.
  • Must have basic knowledge of service standards, guest relations, food and beverage preparations, and etiquette.
  • Ability to understand and apply written product labeling instructions to ensure the safe application of such products and processes within the hotel.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly responsible and reliable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team.
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Hotel Madison standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the setting up, serving, and breaking down of all banquet facilities.
  • Maintain and organize all facilities and equipment.
  • Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.
  • Perform preparatory tasks and side work duties to ensure that guests are served promptly and efficiently.
  • Know how to read the Banquet Event Order (BEO) and be familiar with the menu of the assigned function.
  • Serve guests according to the hotel’s standards in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Respond to guest problems, complaints, and accidents. Communicate to management, if necessary.
  • Set all tables according to hotel standards.
  • Maintain the banquet storeroom in a neat and orderly manner, stocked with any and all appropriate supplies necessary for food service functions.
  • Clean up banquet space after the completion of the function and ensure that all equipment and supplies are stored and re-stocked properly.
  • Prepare room according to BEO and the various meal functions.
  • Follow all money-handling procedures when serving guests.
  • Know and use "suggestive selling" techniques.
  • Know the menu items for each function served and be able to give accurate descriptions.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Perform, execute, as well as adjust to other duties as assigned.
