About The Position

The Banquet Server is responsible for effectively communicating verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner. This role requires the ability to listen, understand, and clarify concerns, multitask, and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines. Employees must approach all encounters with guests and staff in a positive manner, attend all hotel-required meetings and trainings, and maintain regular attendance. A high standard of personal appearance and grooming, including proper uniform and nametag, is expected. The server must comply with hotel standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient operations, maximize productivity, identify and solve problems, and apply complex information from various sources. Cross-training in other hotel areas and maintaining confidentiality are also key aspects of this role. The server should show initiative, anticipate guest or operational needs, and perform other duties as requested by management, maintaining a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.

Requirements

  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Employees must at all times be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to hear, understand and communicate orally and in writing to communicate with staff, vendors, and guests a normal in-person and phone conversation.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend and twist, push and pull, stoop, and kneel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preparatory tasks and side work duties to ensure prompt and efficient guest service.
  • Read Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and be familiar with the menu for assigned functions.
  • Serve guests according to hotel standards in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Respond to guest problems, complaints, and accidents, communicating with management as necessary.
  • Set all tables according to hotel standards.
  • Maintain the banquet storeroom in a neat and orderly manner, stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Clean banquet spaces after functions and properly store and re-stock equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare rooms according to BEOs and various meal functions.
  • Follow all money handling procedures when serving guests.
  • Utilize suggestive selling techniques.
  • Know menu items for each function served and provide accurate descriptions.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
