About The Position

We invite you to join the world of hospitality at Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire as our new Banquet Porter. The Banquet Porter plays a key essential role in the successful execution of meetings, conferences, weddings, galas, and special events by ensuring banquet spaces are professionally prepared, maintained, and restored. Through attention to detail, teamwork, and operational excellence, the Banquet Porter helps create seamless event experiences while supporting the Banquets, Culinary, Stewarding, and Conference Services teams.

Requirements

  • Valid ProServe certification required.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift in a fast-paced banquet environment.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of banquet equipment including tables, chairs, dance floors, staging, portable bars, linens, audio-visual equipment, and food and beverage service equipment.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently and move heavier banquet equipment with assistance or appropriate equipment.
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, push, pull, climb stairs, and perform repetitive physical tasks associated with banquet setup and teardown.
  • Ability to safely manoeuvre throughout banquet spaces while transporting equipment and supplies.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity required to complete multiple room setups, event transitions, and breakdowns while maintaining hotel presentation standards.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently provide professional, friendly, and engaging service to all guests and clients throughout banquet and catered events.
  • Maintain a positive, guest-focused attitude while supporting banquet operations behind the scenes and during events.
  • Respond promptly to guest and colleague requests while maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
  • Assist Banquet Servers and Banquet Captains in delivering exceptional guest experiences during meetings, conferences, weddings, galas, cocktail receptions, and catered events.
  • Support a variety of banquet functions including plated meals, buffet service, coffee breaks, working lunches, receptions, and off-site catering events.
  • Set up, prepare, and tear down banquet function rooms according to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), floor plans, room diagrams, and event specifications.
  • Arrange tables, chairs, staging, dance floors, linens, risers, portable bars, buffet stations, registration tables, and other banquet equipment according to established hotel standards.
  • Install and remove event décor, signage, easels, pipe and drape, portable partitions, and other function room equipment as required.
  • Ensure meeting rooms are clean, organized, and fully prepared prior to guest arrival.
  • Perform room resets between functions while adhering to event timelines and operational priorities.
  • Inspect banquet rooms before and after events to ensure cleanliness, presentation, and readiness for the next function.
  • Assist with the setup and operation of beverage stations, coffee breaks, buffet displays, and portable bars.
  • Provide bartending support and assist with beverage service when operationally required and appropriately certified.
  • Assist with off-site catering event setup, transportation, and breakdown as required.
  • Safely transport, move, and store banquet equipment including tables, chairs, dance floors, staging, portable bars, audio-visual equipment, linens, and service equipment.
  • Ensure banquet storage areas, service corridors, and function spaces remain clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Monitor banquet equipment for damage or maintenance concerns and report issues promptly.
  • Assist with inventory organization, equipment counts, and replenishment of banquet supplies.
  • Complete opening, closing, and side duties efficiently while maintaining hotel presentation standards.
  • Support quick room turnovers and last-minute event changes while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work efficiently to ensure all event timelines and operational deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Work closely with Banquet Captains, Banquet Servers, Culinary, Stewarding, Conference Services, Engineering, Housekeeping, and Sales teams to ensure successful event execution.
  • Communicate effectively regarding room changes, event schedules, equipment needs, and operational priorities.
  • Foster positive working relationships across departments that support banquet operations.
  • Contribute to a positive, professional, and collaborative team environment.
  • Participate in departmental training and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and service standards.
  • Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures in accordance with hotel policies and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure safe lifting techniques and proper handling of banquet furniture and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with all hotel policies, procedures, and banquet operating standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment for both guests and colleagues.
  • Report maintenance concerns, equipment damage, and workplace hazards promptly.
  • Ensure responsible service of alcohol in accordance with Alberta liquor regulations when assisting with bar operations.
