About The Position

The Banquet Houseperson ensures the proper setup, breakdown, and cleanliness of banquet and meeting facilities according to guest expectations and brand standards. This role is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency and guest satisfaction within the banquet and event spaces of a 198-room hotel with 8,821 sq. Ft. of meeting/event space. The property offers amenities such as ocean views, beachfront access, a restaurant & bar, fitness center, rooftop lounge, and outdoor pool, and is conveniently located near Doheny State Beach and local attractions.

Requirements

  • Previous banquet set up experience in a hotel setting such as Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt or another hotel brand.
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work mornings, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to deftly maneuver between tight confines in the bar and pool areas, including on occasionally wet pool deck surfaces, while clearing items and/or carrying trays of food and beverages.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to taste or smell.
  • Must regularly carry up to 50lbs.
  • Regularly required to push/pull up to 75lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all Banquet side work as designated by the Banquet Captain and/or Supervisor/Manager.
  • Efficiently and properly perform all service standards.
  • Prepare rooms and tables for breakfast, lunch or dinner, ensuring rooms are set to standards (table, linen, silverware, glassware, food area).
  • Clean banquet and meeting facilities prior to set-up.
  • Coordinate with banquets captain/supervisor on room set up.
  • Refresh meeting rooms during meal and coffee breaks (trash removal, refreshment of pads & pens, wipe tables, refresh of candy caddies, glassware and water pitcher or water bottles).
  • Break down meeting rooms as soon as possible after the end of a function and vacuum the room.
  • Move convention material boxes, programs, etc. from hotel receiving docks, registration areas, sleeping rooms, or suites.
  • Move client packages to the shipping location when they are ready to be shipped back.
  • Care for the equipment.
  • Accommodate special customer needs, such as hanging banners for meetings and food/beverage functions.
  • Organize and maintain the back of the house areas to ensure a productive, safe, and energy-conserving work environment.
  • Report to the Banquet Captain/Supervisor or Manager regarding any need for housekeeping and/or repairs of banquet equipment, rooms, and/or maintenance.
  • Follow up with guest requests/complaints.
