About The Position

The Edgewater is Madison’s premier venue for hosting a wide variety of events, from grand weddings to intimate celebrations. Our banquet staff is dedicated to providing exceptional food and beverage service with professionalism, ensuring guests have a memorable experience in our luxurious historic property with breathtaking views of Lake Mendota. The Banquet Houseperson plays a crucial role in setting up event spaces and supporting the overall success of the Banquet Department.

Requirements

  • Ability to report to work on time and ready to get to work, and touch base with your Manager when you arrive.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
  • Strength to move tables and chairs in and out of our banquet facilities and set them up for events according to provided floorplans.
  • Mindset to work safely per established safety standards and report any potential safety hazards in the setup of event rooms, acting on them to create safe working spaces.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Interact with all levels of customers and hotel management.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to resolve customer issues or complaints.
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate some tools, and various pieces of furniture and banquet equipment.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and smell.
  • Must be capable of lifting and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • There is substantial repetitive motion of the wrists, hands and fingers.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of fine dining and good knowledge of wines/beverages.
  • Combined 2+ year's previous hotel and/or food and beverage service.

Responsibilities

  • Delegate daily and weekly assignments to the setup team, ensuring consistent on-time setup of event spaces.
  • Provide support to all banquet staff before, during, and after events.
  • Lead by example when working the banquet areas with setup teams.
  • Read and understand all details of Banquet Event Orders, including start time and beverage requirements.
  • Greet all guests in a positive manner.
  • Quickly and efficiently handle all guest requests.
  • Move tables and chairs in and out of banquet facilities and set them up for events according to provided floorplans.
  • Work safely per established safety standards and report any potential safety hazards in the setup of event rooms, acting on them to create safe working spaces.
  • Effectively communicate with the kitchen, catering coordinators, and banquet staff.
  • Efficiently communicate any challenges, guest complaints, or requests to the Banquet Captain.
  • Perform other related duties that may be assigned by Banquet Captain/supervisor/manager.
