About The Position

The Bankruptcy Oversight Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring mortgage loans involved in bankruptcy proceedings. This role ensures all accounts are serviced in compliance with federal bankruptcy laws, investor guidelines, and internal policies. The specialist acts as a liaison between internal departments, attorneys, bankruptcy trustees, and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate handling of bankruptcy cases. This role requires 100% onsite attendance in our Pontiac office. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Monitor a portfolio of mortgage loans in active bankruptcy. Review and maintain bankruptcy court filings and documentation (e.g., proof of claims, motion for relief, reaffirmation agreements). Track case milestones including filing, discharge, dismissal, and plan confirmation. Ensure all servicing actions adhere to the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, CFPB regulations, and investor (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA) guidelines. Perform quality control reviews on legal filings and attorney work. Identify and escalate any compliance issues or servicing errors. Act as a point of contact for bankruptcy attorneys and trustees. Coordinate with internal teams such as foreclosure, loss mitigation, and payment processing. Respond to inquiries from borrowers, legal counsel, or government agencies regarding bankruptcy status and impacts. Update loan servicing systems with accurate and timely bankruptcy information. Generate and analyze reports related to bankruptcy case status, court deadlines, and operational metrics. Document account activity thoroughly for audit and regulatory purposes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in mortgage servicing, bankruptcy, legal support, or a related financial services role.
  • Strong understanding of Chapters 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy processes.
  • Familiarity with servicing systems (e.g., MSP/Black Knight) and legal tracking platforms (e.g., LPS, Tempo).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with investor guidelines (FHA, VA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac).
  • Knowledge of SCRA and RESPA as related to bankruptcy.
  • Prior experience working with bankruptcy counsel or trustees.
