About The Position
AmeriCU Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented Bankruptcy & Legal Account Specialist I to manage accounts involved in bankruptcy or legal recovery actions. This role handles bankruptcy filings, legal collections, account documentation, and coordination with attorneys, trustees, court personnel, and third-party agencies. The specialist will partner closely with Asset Recovery leadership to support effective recovery strategies, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure members are treated with understanding, empathy, and professionalism throughout the process.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage accounts in bankruptcy status.
- Handle bankruptcy-related filings, including proofs of claim and reaffirmation agreements.
- Track bankruptcy payment plans and account activity.
- Communicate with bankruptcy trustees, attorneys, and court personnel.
- Manage accounts requiring legal action for debt recovery.
- Work with attorneys to initiate and monitor legal proceedings.
- Place appropriate accounts with third-party collection agencies or attorneys.
- Prepare detailed reports on bankruptcy and legal account performance.
- Monitor relevant account metrics and recovery activity.
- Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities to improve recovery rates.
- Use reporting tools and software to keep account information accurate and current.
- Communicate with members regarding the status of bankruptcy and legal accounts.
- Provide guidance to internal employees navigating bankruptcy-related processes.
- Approach member conversations with empathy and understanding while maintaining an appropriate and professional level of firmness.
- Stay current on regulations and best practices related to bankruptcy and legal collections.
- Follow applicable federal and state requirements governing bankruptcy and legal recovery activities.
