About The Position

Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is seeking a Waterjet/Bandsaw Technician to join their team. UTRS provides a wide range of engineering, management, and digital services. This role supports the mission to deliver creative, high-quality, technology-based services. The technician will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC waterjet cutting systems and industrial bandsaws to produce high-quality parts from various materials. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints, and a safety-first mindset. They will assist with equipment operation, tooling maintenance, and ensure all required processes are completed. This position is located at Picatinny Arsenal.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain a clearance through the DoD security background investigation process
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • 1–3 years of experience operating CNC machinery (Waterjet experience preferred; OMAX, Flow, etc. is a plus).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficient in basic shop math and understanding of tolerances.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attendance record and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving.
  • Must be a team player, able to multitask and prioritize accordingly
  • Basic PC knowledge (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a government driver’s license
  • High School diploma required

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC waterjet machines and horizontal/vertical bandsaws.
  • Load and unload raw materials (plates, bars, tubes) using forklifts or overhead cranes.
  • Select appropriate cutting parameters, load CNC programs, and make minor offset adjustments to ensure part accuracy.
  • Perform first-article inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure parts meet blueprint specifications.
  • Perform routine daily maintenance (e.g., nozzle changes, garnet refills, blade tensioning) and keep the workspace clean.
  • Track material usage and log completed jobs in the shop management system.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure safe operations of all equipment.
