About The Position

The Band Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive instrumental music program that promotes student achievement, creativity, musical proficiency, and personal growth. The teacher provides engaging instruction for middle and high school band students, prepares students for performances and assessments, and fosters an inclusive learning environment that encourages collaboration, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation of music.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a closely related field.
  • Valid North Carolina Professional Educator License (or eligibility for licensure) in Music Education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instrumental music pedagogy.
  • Successful completion of required background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching both middle and high school band.
  • Experience directing concert, marching, jazz, or pep bands.
  • Experience preparing students for regional and state performance assessments.
  • Knowledge of instrument repair and maintenance.
  • Experience using music technology and digital instructional tools.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instrumental music instruction for middle and high school students.
  • Develop students' musical knowledge, technical proficiency, performance skills, and music literacy.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of all students.
  • Prepare students for concerts, performances, festivals, adjudications, parades, and other school or community events.
  • Organize and direct rehearsals during and, when appropriate, outside of the regular school day.
  • Assess student progress using multiple measures and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, responsibility, and student engagement.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues regarding student progress and program activities.
  • Collaborate with school staff to support student achievement and school improvement initiatives.
  • Recruit and retain students in the band program through outreach and promotional activities.
  • Maintain an organized music library, inventory of instruments, uniforms, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Ensure proper care, maintenance, and safe use of instruments and equipment.
  • Develop and manage the band program budget in accordance with district procedures.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school committees, and other assigned duties.
  • Comply with all district, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
