About The Position

As a Band Saw Cell Operator, you’ll be part of our team located in Shelbyville, KY. You’ll get to maintain equipment to cut off, weld, grind, anneal, grit blast, inspect and pack Porta Band blades. You will set up and adjust the automatic cut off machine with coil of band saw material, set stops for required length and counter for required quantity, and start the automatic cycle and check for proper length. You will transfer blades to resistance butt welder, make necessary adjustments to the welding machine, and check time and temperature controls. Using a grinding wheel and/or belt grinder, you will remove weld flash from both sides and back of the blade, and maintain welder jaws clean and free from flash. Periodically, you will reverse jaws or remove and replace as required. You will also dress the abrasive wheel and remove and replace as necessary. You will complete required documentation, perform all required inspections and tests throughout the manufacturing process, and prepare blades for packing in shipping containers. You will perform regularly scheduled daily, weekly and monthly maintenance to all machines and equipment, including disassembling, cleaning, lubricating and repairing as required. You will post required information to the maintenance log sheet and properly handle all scrap, rework, and mixed product as well as conform to ISO 9001. You will observe and obey all safety rules, regulations and practices and employ all safety equipment and devices. You will notify the supervisor, maintenance, or quality immediately when a problem occurs with any part of your job, equipment, or product. You will also perform other duties as assigned, including cross-training in other operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 6+ months’ experience with machine operator
  • Ability to use and operate basic tools, equipment, & gages
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and standard work instructions
  • Basic math & computer skills
  • Light physical effort required, equivalent to lifting, pushing, pulling 5 to 25 pounds
  • Ability to read and write English; understand and comprehend instructions for safety and quality
  • Flexibility to work overtime
