About The Position

This short-term assignment provides an amazing opportunity to be engaged in the election process! We are currently recruiting individuals to create a roster of skilled temporary employees who will work in the Short-Term Temporary Ballot Van Driver or Co-Pilot position during the King County 2026 Primary and General Elections. Training is provided to perform assigned work. King County Elections (KCE) manages voter registrations and elections for more than 1.4 million voters in King County, one of the largest vote-by-mail counties in the United States. KCE's mission is to conduct accessible, secure, and accurate elections. Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a diverse team environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to use an Apple iOS smart phone device and applications
  • Ability to work with and provide exceptional customer service to the public
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stand, reach, climb, stoop, squat, and lift 25 pounds
  • Travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation services is required
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required to operate King County Vehicles
  • Must be 21 years old

Responsibilities

  • Drive and navigate an assigned vehicle (to include a 16-ft box truck, cargo van, minivan, and/or other county vehicle) to assigned locations to collect ballots from drop boxes following standard department procedures and election law
  • Answer basic voter questions
  • Load and unload ballots and securely transport ballots back to the King County Elections Building in Renton
  • Process incoming ballots which may require standing or sitting in one location for long periods of time
  • Provide customer service and use team building skills
  • Other administrative tasks, as assigned
