About The Position

This role involves operating a balancing machine to produce high-quality rolls according to standards and print specifications. The Balancer will be responsible for setting up and operating dynamic and static balancing machines, calculating and correcting roll unbalance, performing visual inspections, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. The position requires adherence to shop practices, blueprint reading, and communication with team members and supervisors.

Requirements

Ability to use hand tools, drill press, balancer, band saw, cut-off saw, measuring devices.
Understanding of machine-shop math (algebra and ratios).
Read blueprints.
Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of setups, operations and processes within the limitations of established or standard methods and procedures.
Constant alertness and continuous mental and visual attention required to monitor machining process.
Requires attention to detail, critical thinking and adherence to assembly drawings.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

Using Balance machine, set up and balance rollers to produce high quality rolls to standards and print specifications.
Set up dynamic balancing machine and dynamically balance rolls.
Static balance rolls on a static balancer.
Calculate roll unbalance using balancing machine and make corrections by adding or removing weights.
Clean roll inside before balancing: Wash, when required.
Read blueprints and use Webex shop balance procedures to ensure balancing is done to specifications.
Perform visual inspection of rolls, record the amount of unbalance, when required, and complete inspection sheets.
Stamp Webex identification data on the ends of the rollers, when required.
Maintain a clean and safe working area.
Ensure that all machined parts are properly protected.
Perform material handling, as required.
Perform daily equipment maintenance as required.
Review blueprint to detect print errors related to work being performed.
Straighten rolls and shafts, as required, by use of torch or hydraulic press.
Load and unload product on the machine.
Obtain supplies and materials required to run the job.
Complete inspection reports and time sheets.
Sign out for and return all blueprints to print rack.
Request material needed one-half hour prior to start of job.
Follow all Webex standard shop practices.
Deburr finished parts.
Return tools to tool crib or appropriate area daily, as required.
Communicate to other operators and supervisors information regarding work procedures being used and anticipated on a job.
