About The Position

As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Bakery Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. This role involves wrapping and pricing bakery goods, placing them on counters, tables, and in display cases. The clerk assists customers, cleans shelves and display cases, records inventory, and cleans, fills, and rotates self-serve displays and tables. They also work with customers to take special orders, slice bread using an automatic slicer, and collaborate with the Baker to determine which items need to be baked.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
  • Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
  • Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
  • Operate shrink wrapper and bread slicer to prepare goods for sale.
  • Maintain cleanliness of bakery area of the store, including cleaning display cases, work surfaces, and preparing and straightening up bakery display areas.
  • Replace stock in bakery area as needed.
  • Move trays of bakery goods from preparation area to display area.
  • Monitor bakery area to locate expired or nearly expired bakery goods for markdown or throw away.
  • Use various sales reports to identify sales opportunities and use intercom to communicate sale items.
  • Use price labeling machine and place price sticker on packaged item.
  • Other duties as assigned.
