The Bakery Manager exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job. This role directs and controls the operation of the Bakery Department to achieve sales and profit objectives. The position champions corporate and division customer service programs, plans, organizes, and directs day-to-day operations of the Bakery Department, exercising independent judgment and discretion. The manager conducts daily inspections of all Bakery department sections and initiates corrective measures to ensure compliance with product quality, code date standards, sanitation, safety, and security requirements. This role also oversees and assists with all bakery department duties such as proofing, baking, decorating, slicing, and packaging fresh bakery products. The manager implements effective promotional and seasonal displays, prevents shrink, and controls expenses. They accurately complete, maintain, and monitor daily log sheets, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork and logs, while maintaining records on ad item movement. The manager orders, checks, receives, and controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness, maintaining inventory levels according to Division directives. They stock and rotate product, maintain and organize the bakery department cooler and freezer, conduct periodic inventories, process administrative paperwork, and maintain accurate department records. The manager ensures that bakery product quality, baking, and decorating standards are met. They ensure proper merchandising of product by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising of advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow. The manager complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company policies, and follows Company policy in handling quick sale items, complying with all federal, state, and local health and food safety standards. Additionally, the manager assists customers by taking and filling special orders, makes product suggestions, engages in suggestive selling, and makes intercom announcements. They ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor and work area, freezer and cooler, equipment, and retail cases. The manager handles customer relations, engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques, and monitors daily log sheets, purchase reports, and sales and labor reports. They attend required training and sales meetings and implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions. The manager supervises, motivates, directs, trains, and participates in the hiring of Bakery Department personnel. They monitor associate performance and effectively recommend personnel actions to the Store Director, such as hiring, firing, layoff, and disciplinary action. The manager identifies and trains associates with high potential for advancement opportunities and schedules personnel to ensure adequate coverage and service levels. They communicate sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to department associates to ensure positive results and comply with and ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures. The manager resolves associate complaints where appropriate and reports action taken to the Store Director. They immediately report any potential serious policy violations, including but not limited to working off the clock, harassment, food safety and sanitation, and discrimination, to the Store Director and assist in appropriate handling. The manager answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately, receives and appropriately resolves customer complaints, and reports them to the Store Director as appropriate. They are responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
