The Bakery Manager exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job. This role directs and controls the operation of the Bakery Department to achieve sales and profit objectives. The position champions corporate and division customer service programs, plans, organizes, and directs day-to-day operations of the Bakery Department, exercising independent judgment and discretion. This includes conducting daily inspections of all Bakery department sections and initiating corrective measures to ensure compliance with product quality, code date standards, sanitation, safety, and security requirements. The manager oversees and assists with all bakery department duties such as proofing, baking, decorating, slicing, and packaging fresh bakery products. They implement effective promotional and seasonal displays, prevent shrink, and control expenses. Accurate completion, maintenance, and monitoring of daily log sheets, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork and logs are essential. The role also involves ordering, checking, receiving, and controlling inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness, while maintaining inventory levels according to Division directives. Stocking and rotating product, maintaining and organizing the bakery department cooler and freezer, and conducting periodic inventories are also key responsibilities. The manager ensures that bakery product quality, baking, and decorating standards are met, and proper merchandising of product is executed by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising of advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow. Compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company policies is required. The manager follows Company policy in handling quick sale items and complies with all federal, state, and local health and food safety standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting customers by taking and filling special orders, making product suggestions, engaging in suggestive selling, and making intercom announcements. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, and retail cases is crucial. The manager handles customer relations, monitors daily reports, and attends required training and sales meetings. They implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions. A significant part of the role involves supervising, motivating, directing, training, and participating in the hiring of Bakery Department personnel. This includes monitoring associate performance, recommending personnel actions to the Store Director (such as hiring, firing, layoff, and disciplinary action), and identifying and training associates with high potential for advancement. Scheduling personnel to ensure adequate coverage and service levels is also a responsibility. The manager communicates sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to department associates to ensure positive results and complies with and ensures compliance with all Company policies and procedures. Resolving associate complaints where appropriate and reporting action taken to the Store Director, and immediately reporting any potential serious policy violations to the Store Director and assisting in appropriate handling are also part of the role. Answering and responding to incoming calls appropriately, and receiving and appropriately resolving customer complaints are also required. Performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures is fundamental.
