About The Position

The Bakery Clerk position aims to enhance the customer's shopping experience by efficiently producing, stocking, and packaging bakery items in a friendly and courteous manner. This role formally reports to the Bakery Manager and is classified as a non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Complete ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
  • Know and implement the Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Answer customer questions accurately and courteously by knowing department products, procedures, and policies.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Know, comply with, and encourage compliance with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
  • Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.
  • Reaching overhead with both arms up to a maximum of 70 inches, twisting at the waist and lifting objects with both hands weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling grocery items to the proper locations as needed, up to a peak force of 20 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time on tile, asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs.
  • Bending and squatting, at times all the way to floor level.
  • Able to work in colder conditions of the grocery coolers and freezers.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5ft.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers by filling orders at the bakery counter.
  • Merchandise products creatively and appealingly, ensuring display cases are clean and full.
  • Follow rotation procedures to prevent the use or sale of stale or outdated product.
  • Break out next day's product and address all special orders.
  • Ensure the bakery is stocked, cleaned, and ready for the next shift or day's business.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and department for customers and coworkers.
  • Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Promote sales by suggesting additional products or services.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when appropriate.
  • Unload incoming shipments of bakery ingredients and stock them neatly.
  • Complete additional tasks as identified by management, assist other stores or departments, and gain new skills.
