About The Position

The Bakery Clerk position at Sedano's Supermarkets involves carrying out duties and responsibilities consistent with the company's goals, values, and operating principles, and in conformity with all governing laws and regulations. Every employee is expected to follow departmental and company policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations and is responsible for maintaining a safe environment throughout the store, including securing hazardous areas and informing management. Employees must also maintain a friendly attitude, wear the proper uniform, keep the store stocked and organized, and provide excellent customer service. Specifically, the Bakery Clerk attends to customers' requests for espresso, baked items, sandwiches, and other food and beverages sold in the store, ensuring customer satisfaction and excellent service.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Previous food service experience
  • Current food safety training certificate required which must be renewed every three (3) years
  • Ability to use department equipment properly to accomplish the essential duties of the position
  • Takes responsibility for own actions
  • Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
  • Basic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measures
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
  • Good interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Promptly attend to customers requests for department food products
  • Properly handle, display and dispense food and drinks
  • Prepare flan, custards, rice pudding or other bakery items as needed
  • Place loaves of bread into bags and put on display for sale, restocking when necessary
  • Make sandwiches, espresso and other food items ordered by customers
  • Accurately process and accept payment for goods sold in the department
  • Restock displays of food as needed; retrieve food from back room, kitchen and cooler
  • Ensure safety measures are taken upon oneself when handling or carrying hot trays of food
  • When scheduled for the evening shift, prepare bread dough for baking the next morning by placing on trays and allowing dough to rise overnight
  • Maintain all requirements for a sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination; adhere to department procedures with all aspects of federal, state, local and company health, safety and sanitation codes
  • Wash dishes, knives, plates and other department utensils and equipment
  • Maintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors and employees
  • Sweep and/or mop floor as needed
  • Wipe countertops, cooking areas and tables as needed
  • Report all accidents promptly according to company procedures
  • Attend and participate in departmental and store meetings
  • Punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies
  • Performs other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position
  • Assist the cafeteria or hot food servers as needed by promptly attending to customers requests for department food products
  • Restock containers, bags, utensils, cups, etc., as supply runs low
