About The Position

The Bakery Clerk position assists customers in their shopping experience by producing, stocking, and packaging bakery items in the most efficient, friendly, and courteous manner possible. This is a non-exempt position that formally reports to the Bakery Manager.

Requirements

  • Must obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Complete ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
  • Know and implement the Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Know department products, procedures, and policies to accurately and courteously answer customer questions.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
  • Basic math and reading skills required for the position.
  • Reaching overhead with both arms up to a maximum of 70 inches, twisting at the waist and lifting objects with both hands weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling grocery items to the proper locations as needed, up to a peak force of 20 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time on tile, asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs.
  • Bending and squatting, at times all the way to floor level.
  • Able to work in colder conditions of the grocery coolers and freezers.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5ft.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers by filling orders at the bakery counter.
  • Merchandise products in a creative and appealing manner, and keep display cases clean and full.
  • Follow rotation procedures to ensure stale or outdated product is not used or purchased by customers.
  • Prepare product for the next day and address all special orders.
  • Ensure the bakery is stocked, cleaned, and ready for the next shift or day's business.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and department for customers and coworkers.
  • Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Promote sales by suggesting additional products or services.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when appropriate.
  • Unload incoming shipments of bakery ingredients and stock them in designated areas.
  • Complete additional tasks identified by management, assist other stores or departments as needed, and gain new skills.
