About The Position

The Bakery Associate works in Westborn Market’s bakery department, assisting customers with selecting and purchasing bakery items and providing exceptional customer service. The role requires a high level of product knowledge. Duties include baking off pastry case items, preparing bakery products according to written recipes, stocking and rotating merchandise, and preparing, packaging, and pricing products. The associate uses commercial baking equipment and maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with food-safety practices. The position also involves taking customer orders, keeping a positive and helpful attitude throughout the shift, and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

The work involves exposure to conditions such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises. It requires moderate physical activity, including handling objects weighing up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for more than four hours per day. Some exposure to hazards or physical risks is involved, requiring basic safety precautions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

• Proper phone etiquette when taking orders or messages.
• Ability to write legibly and read with comprehension at a level applicable to the position.
• Ability to handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for more than four hours per day.
• Ability to follow basic safety precautions in an environment with some hazards or physical risks.

Responsibilities

• Bake off pastry case items such as muffins, croissants, and scones according to set times.
• Prepare parfaits, dips, and other bakery items using written recipes.
• Use commercial baking equipment, including ovens, knives, and bread slicers.
• Stock and rotate bakery merchandise as directed.
• Prepare, package, and price products as directed.
• Assist customers with orders and with selecting and purchasing bakery items.
• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a positive, helpful attitude during the shift.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area free of hazards and follow food-safety best practices.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
